Just 5 More Minutes...

Yesterday, I wrote a poem with one of my writing groups, which seemed to sum up how I feel most mornings...

source
"Waaaah, Waaaah, Waaaah" screams my alarm clock,
Rousing me out of a dreamy slumber.
Five more minutes, I plead... rubbing my crusty eyes.
I yawn and stretch my limbs like a cat basking in the sun,
But I am a sloth.
I burrow back under my duvet like a mole.
"Smaaaaaaaaaaack!"  I whack the snooze button.
Five more minutes.
Bliss.

A friend of mine today made a good point - we always just want 5 more minutes... to eat our lunch; to talk to our friends; to read our book; of peace; to finish the marking; of cuddles or 5 more minutes to say goodbye...

I love my extra 5 minutes of dozing in the morning (okay, it's more like 30 minutes... today it was 45.)  It is delicious... a little bit extra, that I'm cheekily adding on, when I know I shouldn't.

Both of these songs are called 5 More Minutes... I think I've found two new songs to add to my ipod.

What's your favourite "5 more minutes?"

Uh-'O'

I have a slight block dear readers few,
So for inspiration, I'm turning to you.

In my Gratitude Alphabet, I'm stuck on "O"
What to do, I just do not know.

So what would you do?
I'd appreciate one suggestion or two!

Oh yay! Hooray! Today is my Faiza's birthday!

There's a girl named Faiza that I really adore
She's not only my friend, she's much, much more
I love her heaps and miss her a ton
We laugh, we giggle and generally have fun
Her friendship to me is beyond worth
And I'd really like to be with her today to celebrate her birth
Happy birthday to my dearest friend...
Your friendship is a gift that God did send.

  I know... "Groan!"  (But you know I love it!)

Happiness

I've got a grin that stretches from ear to ear,
It's because of great news that today I did hear.

Over the last year, I made a new friend,
A lovely, kind girl who often gives an ear to bend.

Always willing to give a smile and a helping hand,
She is among favourite people of mine in New Zealand.

All the happiness in the world she does deserve
Because she gives her friendship without reserve.

Today she announced that she is engaged to Truman
Of this news, I am a big fan!!

So I wish years of happiess to you two
May your joys be many and your sorrows few.

A new beginning.

So I had a blog, once upon a time... and I really liked the domain name, because it always seemed to fit. I read through it recently and realised how much I have changed in the past few years, which is why I thought 'fluidity' was a great name for my blog. Sadly, I have no idea what login I used for it, so fluidity is forever fixed in cyberspace. Funny that. So perspective will be the name wherein my ramblings are contained.

I used to love writing. While cleaning out bits and bobs that have been lurking around my parents' basement (often at 2 a.m.) I have found a number of things I have written and friends have written to/for me. It's been fairly enlightening and quite amusing. The following poem is my favourite (it doesn't have the most imaginative title, nor do I have any idea when it was written - although I figure it was in highschool.)

"Writing Folder Assignment"

"Listen here, as I tell a tale of woe,
A story of Tesneem, whom some of you may know,
The fateful day when she went to ski,
Because of her carelessness she hurt her knee;

The air was crisp and cold,
(or so my story is told)
She stood with an air of confidence about her,
Yes folks, she was very sure;

She peered down, as the lift rose,
Slowly but surely, she blew her nose.
As she dismounted from the lift,
Her demeanor began to shift;

Confronted with the horror of a hill,
Everything seemed to still,
She felt everyone was watching her descent,
Unfortunately for skiing, she was not meant;

The wind whipped by her face,
Her destination was the ski base,
Suddenly the snow seemed to gain control!
Sadly, Tesneem began to roll;

And as the sun shone high in the morn,
Tesneem was on the ground with ligaments torn;

After that day Tesneem was never the same,
Because from then on, she was lame;

But one thing she's thankful for,
Is that she hadn't been hurt even more,
For if she had fallen in stranger ways,
She may have been paralyzed for the rest of her days;

So her life went on,
Her physical freedom was gone,
A brace she had to wear,
She must watch her actions with care;

With the brace on her knee,
She goes to physiotherapy,
Because you see
Tesneem is me;

Ergo, always be sure,
Because what you've got,
You should be thankful for.

Such drama! Outstanding!
